WONDRICH COLLECTION

Widely hailed as the world's foremost cocktail historian, author David Wondrich has spent decades studying the hazy history of alcoholic beverages. Our Classic Collection represents his collaboration with Cocktail Kingdom's own Greg Boehm - curator of the largest known antique cocktail book and bar tool collections in the world. The products below pull inspiration from the beauty of an antique tool, while tweaking ergonomics for the modern bartender.

Brand: Cocktail Kingdom

Role : Director of Industrial Designer

Everything is historically accurate, modeled after vintage tools from the personal collections of Wondrich and Cocktail Kingdom Founder and CEO Greg Boehm. Consisting of a ceramic punch bowl, English and French style punch ladles, Georgian punch glasses, mixing tins, cocktail shaker, nutmeg grater, mixing glass, strainer, muddler and toddy lifter.

The Collection

"Edamus bibamus gaudeamus . Post mortem nulla voluptas"

The phase written around the rim translates to "Let us eat, drink, and enjoy life; after death there is no pleasure". This expression urges people to enjoy the present because the afterlife offers no happiness.

The phrase is often seen on barware and punch bowls, attributed to the Roman orator Cicero, although its specific origin is more complex, relating to a Sardanapalian sentiment about enjoying earthly pleasures before one's demise.

Ceramic Punch Bowl

The Last Drop

When the bowl is empty of it’s liquids a decal at the bottom shows an adapted version of the Robert Sayer illustration "The Last Drop" (1773) . An ironic piece of satire when paired with the text around the rim.

Toddy Lifter

A vintage way to portion punch. The lifter works by creating a vacuum with the touch of a finger. The design was created after historic research and inspiration for antique pieces.
